Will you help me plan my trip to Europe?

trip to europe
puppypaisley asked:

Hey guys…I am thinking about a Europe trip with my boyfriend as a law school graduation gift! However, I have only briefly been abroad once, and my boyfriend never, so I was wondering if you could help us out….
1. Where should we go? I know that we want to do Spain, Italy and Greece–and Venice and San Torini are a must within these countries. What other cities/countries should we visit? In what order? Is three weeks enough time to do this?
2. What city should we fly into from the US? Should we fly out of a different city? How far in advance should I order our tickets to get the best price? Is a travel agent helpful?
3. Which mode of transportation should we use traveling between cities?
4. We were thinking of going late Feb or early March, is this a good time?
5. How do we find nice, but affordable places to stay? Should I do this in advance or wing it when we get there?
6. Any good planning websites or books?
7. Any other tips?
Thanks so much for your help!

Where To Purchase A Place Abroad

If you are thinking about getting a home to travel to in the summer have you thought about where it is going to be. There are a lot of people out there that will of course pick their holiday destination as their choice for this. However not all people think about it this way so this is a short article simply putting a few ideas out there to people who are struggling to decide.

It really first depends on the kind of weather you like. If you enjoy cold climates then why not buy a property in Canada or one of the colder states of the USA, perosonally I would make sure it snows there often if I was buying a house there. Of course the hotter climates include Spain, Turkey and other places within Europe. If of course you fancy a holiday home here in the UK then there are loads of places to choose from, all are a bit cold though, so you have been warned.

overseas home insurance is also very important when you are thinking about looking for a home.

America

The USA is my personal choice simply because I think the country is wonderful, the majority of the people very nice and the way the country is currently run is just how I like it. The State I would choose? Well it is obviously going to be Florida simply because I have visited the State on so many ocassions and would adore living out there.

Spain

There are lots of reasons why this is a good place to have a home in. The food, countryside and people have got to be the reason to buy a home here. There is not one place in Spain that I would not say do not go to because the people out there are so nice. The great thing is that the food is good and can again choose to stay within a city or countryside. A pool is a must have for here as it gets very hot in the summer.

France

This is a wonderful country because it has so many things in it like the cities, countryside as well as the hot or cold climate. France is a good place to spend a holiday in because of all of the culture the country is home to as well as the different climates.

So there you have it, just a few of the places that you could be looking into when thinking about buying a holiday home, make sure that you also have insurance for holidays homes as this will help you out if you choose to rent the property out.

Even if you are thinking about getting a nice cottage you should think about holiday cottages insurance just to back you up if something does go wrong.

What to do While on Vacation in Nerja Spain

Nerja may be one of the smaller and lesser known towns on the Costa del Sol in Spain, but it definitely has much to offer. Indeed, there are plenty of exciting activities you can try out if you spend your holidays in Nerja while staying at a great Nerja apartment. Here are some to get you started.

Explore the Caves of Nerja

With its remarkable stalactite and stalagmite formations and prehistoric wall paintings in halls with names like Hall of the Waterfall, Hall of Phantoms and Hall of the Lance, as well as the largest calcite column in the world, the caves of Nerja are truly worth exploring during your holidays in Nerja. You can also see the skeletal remains excavated from the cave in the museum just outside the caves or attend a concert or ballet performance in one of its large chambers.

Watersports at Burriana Beach

It goes without saying that one of the things to do in Nerja is to relax or have a splash at its idyllic beaches. In fact, many tourists rent apartments in Nerja just for this purpose. The most popular beach is Burriana Beach, which is also the largest in town, as well as the most commercialized. This means that you can easily find sun beds, palm umbrellas, shower facilities and restaurants on this beach or take advantage of its watersports centre and go surfing, jetskiing or scuba diving.

Look out from the Balcony of Europe

For the most breathtaking views of the town and the ocean, go to the Balcon de Europa or the Balcony of Europe, a wide promenade on the site of a 9th century castle so named by King Alfonso XII after being captivated by the scenery, or so goes the popular belief. From here, you can see the surrounding mountains or even catch a glimpse of the African coast. You can also enjoy a fine meal at one of the restaurants here or hire a horse-drawn carriage so you can have a relaxing ride through the town.

Volunteer at the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary

The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is dedicated to caring for rescue and retired donkeys, although you will also find horses, mules, goats, pigs, dogs and other animals in the sanctuary when you visit. This is one of the most rewarding things to do in Nerja since you can get a chance to help out by feeding, grooming and walking the animals, particularly the donkeys and dogs, aside from simply petting them. If you want to help out further, you can even adopt a donkey for a year. Don’t worry, you won’t have to bring the donkey home. You just have to make a donation.

Nerja at Night

Even at night, you can still have a lot of fun in Nerja. No matter where your Nerja apartment is, you’re sure to find a bar, pub or restaurant nearby where you can eat, drink, dance, socialize or even watch a flamenco show during your holidays in Nerja, although for the best of the nightlife in Nerja, you will have to make your way to Plaza Tutti Frutti and Antonio Millon where the parties go on until around four in the morning.

Learn Spanish

There is no better place to learn the Spanish language than in Spain, which is why you will find many language centers all over the country, even in Nerja. Most centres offer classes for different ages, with both beginner and advanced courses, and the best part is that they often offer excursions to the nearest cities and attractions so you can practice your Spanish while seeing some of the best sights around, so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity during your holidays in Nerja.

Indeed, you will find plenty of things to do during your holidays in Nerja and if you want a change of pace or scenery, you can always travel to the amazing attractions nearby. These are all reasons to rent a Nerja apartment, which will surely allow you to have a great time and make the most of your vacation.

Budget Breaks in Lanzarote

The current economic doom and gloom means that some holiday makers will be staying at home this year. Rather than enjoying a sunshine break abroad.  And whilst no destination is immune many, such as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, will still be attracting a sizeable amount of arrivals.  Despite the weak pound and economic climate.

This is great news for the tourists visiting the island as there are some great deals to be had on Lanzarote Villas and apartments in Lanzarote.

Last year Lanzarote welcomed just over 1.5 million tourists.  But this figure is sure to fall during 2009.  As arrivals have already dropped by around 20%, during the first quarter of this year, according to AENA, the Spanish airport authority.  But for many in the UK and Eire a domestic break can be just as expensive, if not more so.  And still offers no real guarantee of sunshine.

Self catering holidays on islands such as Lanzarote can in fact work out to be very affordable.  The cost of a weeks stay in many Lanzarote apartments for example starts at around €170 per week.  And this is the price per room, rather than per person.   Those looking for a really good accommodation deal should search for apartments in Puerto del Carmen.  As Lanzarote´s biggest resort offers the largest range of choice, boasting hundreds of complexes.

Accommodation is available in both the New and Old Towns – both popular holiday locations in their own right.  Offering good facilities, such as swimming pools and maid service at highly competitive prices.  Puerto del Carmen has also enjoyed a recent revamp, with a new marina nearing completion in the Old Town Harbour area.  Whilst the main beachfront strip, the Avenida de las Playas has been partly pedestrians.  Making it a for more pleasant place to stroll.

There´s a wide selection of high quality Lanzarote villas available for rent across the island.  All offering high standards of accommodation with prices starting from around €400 per week.  For a two bedroom villa with private pool.  There are more villas in Playa Blanca, the newest destination on the island, than in any other resort.  Thanks to the fact that hundreds of overseas investors have snapped up property here in recent years to rent out to their fellow tourists.

Playa Blanca is an atmospheric and well appointed destination.  Boasting a delightful seafront promenade that stretches from one end of the resort to the other.  Along with some of the best beaches on the island and a fantastic microclimate.  Which tends to make this the most reliable choice for those in search of sun.  Visitors can even hop on a ferry and visit the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura, just 6km away across the Bocaina Straits.

Visitors to the Canaries will get a warm welcome and have a fantastic holiday regardless of their choice of destination.

Lanzarote Holidays – Finding The Right Resort

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands and has been welcoming tourists from across Europe for over forty years.  Consequently accommodation standards on the island are high – with options ranging from top end luxury villas through to small studio apartments.

Lanzarote holiday villas as with the rest of the Canary Islands can be found to suit all budgetary requirements which makes the Canaries a very popular destination.

Puerto del Carmen is the best spot for anyone searching for holiday apartments in Lanzarote.  As the resort boasts the highest concentration of complexes of any destination on the island.  With the bulk concentrated in the New Town area.  Which is clustered around the main beachfront thoroughfare – the Avdenida de las Playas.  Which runs for some 6km right through the heart of the resort and parallel with the main beach – Playa Grande.

The bulk of the best apartment accommodation can today be found in the New Town area – which essentially runs parallel with the main beachfront strip – the Avenida de las Playas.  Whilst the Old Town has become more of a residential zone.

Despite it´s popularity Puerto del Carmen is serviced by only two main Lanzarote hotels.  The San Antonio and the Los Fariones.  With the bulk of this type of accommodation located in the southern resort of Playa Blanca.  Which boasts a strip of new four and five star establishments along the seafront – all offering very reasonable room rates.

Playa Blanca makes for an ideal holiday destination – especially during the winter months.  As the resort enjoys the best weather and climate on Lanzarote.  Thanks to its location at the southern tip of the island just across the Bocaina Straits from the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca is also a relatively young resort – having only evolved over the last ten years.  Which means that most amenities are still virtually brand new.

Playa Blanca also boasts the best selection of Lanzarote villas available for holiday rental.  With some of the most attractive properties located in and around the Rubicon Marina development.  Which is emerging as a serious rival to the islands other luxury marina at Puerto Calero back up the south east coastline towards Puerto del Carmen.

As well as good quality accommodation Lanzarote also boasts a host of
interesting tourist attractions.  Such as the Timanafaya Volcano Park, the green lagoon at El Golfo, The Valley of 1000 Palms and the Cactus Garden.  Fortunately the island is small, which makes sightseeing very manageable.  And car hire in Lanzarote is also relatively cheap – making touring the island affordable too.

I’m currently thinking Spain, but I’m also looking at England, Germany, and France.

And by cheap, I mean both airfare and general cost of living.
