I need to visit art museums and galleries in another major city for school. What is a good city to check out?

I forgot to mention that I am in DC. I would prefer places close enough to there that I could drive or take a short flight, but really I would like to know about places anywhere in the country. If I can’t make a trip there right now, maybe in the future!
