When a dream holiday becomes a nightmare!

April 22nd, 2009 — 07:02 am

A holiday in Turkey for two blissful weeks is what Mr and Mrs Watts have been looking forward to ever since booking it. According to the article “More holiday nightmares as another company collapses” the couple have not only lost their holiday they might even lose the £798 they paid out thanks to the sudden collapse of the travel company Freedom Direct.

What with money being so tight for many people at the moment, the thing we most dread is losing our money because of something happening that is unforeseen. In this case it was the holiday company to blame but there are many reasons that a holiday is cancelled including health or unforeseen circumstances and bad timing. The Watt’s case reminds us of the uncertainty of booking a holiday with firms not accredited to ATOL but at least they booked on a credit card. There could be hope on the horizon after all!

Considering annual travel insurance cover

March 10th, 2009 — 02:48 am

According to the article “How do the experts buy travel insurance?” there is a better way to purchase travel insurance than to accept anything that is offered to us when we book up our flights or package holiday deals.

The expert would first of all organise their travels well enough to be aware of their travel requirements throughout the year. Many holidaymakers like to book up for the cheap holiday deals at the last minute. The expert will know how many trips they will be planning to take throughout the year and where they will be going to boot. With this knowledge in mind, the expert is able to take advantage of the cheaper deals on offer from annual cover! This is a handy tip if you plan to travel a number of times in the year ahead but not all that relevant if you only plan to travel once.

Touring historic Humberside is fun !

February 3rd, 2009 — 03:58 am

There is a lot going on around Humberside that is historic. No need to bring your Humberside hire car if you have one because most of the interesting sights are found within close proximity of one another in and around the rather cosy city centre.

Many museums around the city have free of charge admission and conveniently located in what is not surprisingly known as the ‘Museum Quarter’. The museums to head for first include Wilberforce House (and the story of the Slave Trade), the maritime Museum and the Street Life and Transport Museum. As well as these, some eight museums, there is no end to the historic attractions here which essentially possess a seafaring theme. Look out for the Spurn Lighthouse, the Artic Corsair, the fish pavement and the submarine, which you can actually board.

When you have had your fill of museums, how about a trip aboard a steam engine travelling across the timeless villages of the Yorkshire Moors?

Newcastle Airport is easy to get to!

January 27th, 2009 — 04:48 am

Newcastle Woolsington International Airport is situated between the small and perfectly formed villages of Dinnington and Woolsington. It is easy to get to from a number of places too, thanks to the highly efficient road network and the public transport systems that are in place here.

No convoluted routes involved from the main motorways to the airport, a stone’s throw from the A1, all you will need to take is the A696 from the airport. It couldn’t be easier.

Edinburgh is a trip along the A68 away, while Carlisle and Glasgow are joined up to Newcastle Airport via the A74. You could be in Scotland with ease thanks to the location of the North East’s premier airport.

You don’t even need to journey though the city centre and get lost half a dozen times before you reach your destination, for the airport is sensibly situated off the A1 which cleverly bypasses the centre of town. City centres get clogged up enough as it is without confused airport traffic adding to the chaos.

Similarly, if you aren’t hiring a Newcastle Airport car, you will find the railways excellent too. Within exactly twenty three minutes, following a ride on the Metro  you can be at Newcastle’s Airport from Newcastle Central Station.

Dubrovnik – an unusual holiday destination!

January 26th, 2009 — 04:05 am

You could be forgiven for not immediately thinking of Dubrovnik as your next choice for a summer holiday! Twenty years ago, this was a city was a war zone and was too dangerous for people in their right mind choosing the city as a holiday destination. Things have changed dramatically here. The guns are gone, the fighting has stopped and the gates are open for holiday seekers who yearn for a change of scenery. Dubrovnik, in effect, has picked itself up and dusted itself off a treat in preparation for an increasing tourist market.

Hire a car in Dubrovnik and take to the coast road for stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. If you visit in the summer, you may be more comfortable if you hire a car with air conditioning for temperatures can reach 38 degrees. With a beautiful Mediterranean climate, how can anyone resist the allure of an ex war zone with an UNESCO fortress town to boot?

Put some life into your holiday experiences and visit Dubrovnik this summer!

Ibiza – full of promise!

January 26th, 2009 — 03:30 am

Ibiza, is the Balearic Island famous for its incredible dance music scene and the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. This where the pulsating bass line takes you when you follow its enticing calls.

Famed for its clubs, Amnesia, Space and Eden Ibiza has more to offer than somewhere to splash about covered in foam and dance till your feet drop off! A smaller island than its Balearic cousin, Mallorca, Ibiza only attracts about a fifth of the market that holiday there every year.

It is fair to say that a lot of people are put off Ibiza because of the younger scene, but the truth is, that people of all ages and tastes enjoy the island. There is an Old Town district in the capital Ibiza Town packed with interesting sights as well as some beautiful traditional villages. In addition to that, there are no end of special hidden beaches and coves about the island so why not flee the routine for a day and while in Ibiza hire a car for a spot of exploring?

What do people see in Ibiza?

January 26th, 2009 — 02:20 am

Plenty! Welcome to the party capital of southern Europe! Ibiza attracts the party tourist, which is typically a younger crowd who are more specific in their expectations for a holiday. The total amount of holidaymakers booking into hotels in Ibiza each year totals only a fifth of that landing on the shores of Mallorca each year.

People who gravitate towards the island of Ibiza each year are those who sleep during the day and dance all night long. No they are not vampires and the clubs of Ibiza are not straight out of Tarantino’s “From Dusk till Dawn”, they are a younger market wanting to have a good time. Plain and simple!

There is more to Ibiza than its foam parties and big club scene, if you are not likely to be drunk every waking hour, there is much to take the holiday hire car out to explore. It is a very beautiful island!

All you need to know about Palma!

January 26th, 2009 — 01:38 am

There is much more to Mallorca than its gorgeous sandy beaches! Mallorca possesses a great capital city, that of Palma. A Catalan city that has been voted the best place to set up home in Spain, there is atmosphere on offer here as well as character, tradition and culture. Sadly, holidaymakers to the island tend to gravitate towards Magaluf and S’Arenal, but maybe you are the exception rather than the rule! Give the hotels in Palma a try! Should an opportunity come along to embark a day excursion to Palma, my advice is to grab it!

Palma’s Old Town is a treat! It is small enough to wander about without looking for parking spots for the hire car and big enough to lose the hustle and bustle of the streets without too much trouble.

About the cobbled streets of the capital, there are tapas bars at every turn for those delicious snacks you will continue to crave long after you have returned home! This is the perfect location too for really good souvenirs produced in front of you by local craftsmen and women.

One of the nights should include a nighttime ride on the water, in order to see everything lit up beautifully. Another evening should include a fancy night out in a restaurant. A third night should be a night where you can go for a romantic stroll.

Plan Your Days

After you have decide on your evenings, you should plan your days out as well as possible. If you have many days in your city break, you are going to be able to do many things. However, if you only have a couple, you are going to have to think carefully about what is important. You can see things like the Eiffel Tower, the Arch de Triumph, and several churches in one afternoon, simply by taking the underground to the various stops. On the other hand, if you plan on going to the Louvre, you should plan on having at least one full day to do this so that you don’t feel rushed and you can see as much of this as possible.

Explore, Explore & Explore

Another day you should leave for simply exploring. There are so many interesting neighborhoods in Paris that you can simply take your pick of what you would like to do. Would you like to wander down an expensive shopping street? Or would you like to explore an art district full of galleries and theatres?

Once you have decided which type of exploring you would like to do, ask your concierge which of the districts you should go to in order to do this. Remember that Paris city breaks should be fun and exciting, but should be tailored to your needs and the things that you like to do. In this way, you can make sure that the city break you have planned is exactly what you are looking for. There are so many things to see and do in Paris that you will be able to create an entire holiday around the things that you would like to do.
