I want to visit France but I have a Canadian criminal record. Will this hinder me?
Tracy L asked:
I was charged with an offense when I was 17 but due to the drawn-out proceedings I was not sentenced until I was 18 and now it is on my permanent record. My time (probation) has been served and I have been out of trouble for a long time now. However, I wish to visit France to gain culinary experience towards my apprenticeship. Will I still be able to go? What about obtaining a work visa?

i don’t know the law in Canada but if you get your good conduct certificate and then you get your passport it means that you are free to travel wherever you please,
I don’t think Canada has any kind of a Good Conduct Certificate. Very few of our elected leaders, past or present, would qualify for one, for a start.
Canadians do not need visas to visit any EU countries. I recommend that you see about getting a pardon, because a criminal record can cause a hassle for you all your life if you don’t get rid of it.
A non-criminal record certificate to be obtained at the police’s office of the city of residence (+ 3 copies). I would recommend obtaining this record as early as possible, since some police stations take a few weeks to issue the record.
Get that pardon ASAP because it is highly doubtful you can go anywhere with a criminal record.
