Barcelona Sightseeing Tours

September 7th, 2008 — 04:15 pm
sightseeing
Barcelona is a beautiful ancient Spanish city located on the northwest Mediterranean coast. Founded in 230 BC by Carthaginians, the city has undergone rule from Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, and the Catalans before being integrated into modern Spain. Barcelona has a lot of sightseeing to offer the tourist including the Gothic Quarter, art museums, unique Gaudi architecture and various other parts of the city that must be seen in order to properly experience what Barcelona has to offer.

Barcelona Excursions (http://www.spanish-fiestas.com/barcelona/excursions.htm) offers several sightseeing options depending on what is desired. The tour most popular with devout Catholics features a trip to the shrine of Montserrat 40km north of Barcelona where since the 12th century pilgrims have journeyed to view the miraculous Black Madonna statue (La Moreneta). Tradition holds that this statue was carved by St. Luke himself. Other popular tours include one that highlights a trip to the Salvador Dali museum and visits to Spanish wineries in the countryside. Additionally, Barcelona Excursions features three tours lasting from a half day to a full day that highlight the city’s famous architecture and culture. There is also a night tour emphasizing the city’s brightly lit streets and flamenco dancing indigenous to Barcelona.

Another firm offering sight seeing in Barcelona is Viator (http://www.viator.com/Barcelona/d562-ttd?activities=all). This is a travel-oriented website much like Travelocity or Hotels.com, but is oriented towards sightseeing only. There are numerous sightseeing tours available for booking here. The most highly rated I found was a half-day cycling tour said to take you where the buses can’t. The bicycle tour is not strenuous at all and is said to be ideal for anybody who can ride a bike, no matter what age. Another highly rated tour is one of the La Boqueria Market in the Gothic Quarter where Catalan cooking at its finest can be experienced. Tourists here get the chance to sample Catalan wine, chocolate, fruits, and pastries.

City Discover (http://www.city-discovery.com/barcelona/index.php) is a site similar to Viator and also offers excellent tours of Barcelona. One of the most comprehensive day tours I’ve found is the Barcelona Clasica, a 10 hour tour embarking 6 days a week (except Monday) past Gaudi’s famous buildings, Guell Park, the Gothic Quarter, Christopher Columbus Monument, Montjuich Mountain with is panoramas of the city, and lunch at Poble Espanyol complete with an authentic lunch Catalan style. The tour concludes with a visit to Barcelona’s Monumental Bull Ring and the Picasso Museum.

Europe Cities (http://www.europe-cities.com/barcelona-city-tours.aspx)is yet another online index of Barcelona sightseeing tours. The website features the authors’ favorite sightseeing tours and details on how to book them. One such tour highlighted is the 7-day ‘Catalan Cuisine – A Mediterranean Morsel Tour’ where travelers are immersed in Catalan culture by partaking in elegant meals and visiting local markets and lodging in authentic rural Catalan hotels.

Top-tour-of-spain.com (http://www.top-tour-of-spain.com/Barcelona-sightseeing-tours.html) features the traditional day tours on the other sites but also has some more tailor made for particular interests in the city. One such unique tour offers a Tapas dinner and a show at the Casino Barcelona.

Obviously in a city as rich in culture and history as Barcelona, there are many options available for sightseeing. Tours can be guided or the adventurous can venture out on their own. All of the above sites can help this aforementioned option available also with passbooks full of museum coupons and ‘hop-on-hop-off’ bus passes that allow unlimited bus trips throughout the day.

Imperial City Tour of Morocco

September 3rd, 2008 — 09:40 am
city tour
When you have only one chance to see a country as grand as Morocco, then an eight day Imperial city tour of the country could be an option for your holiday. There are a variety of different things to see in each city, and while you may not have a chance to see everything, you can still get a great feel for the history and culture that is deep seated in the soil of Morocco.  While the vacation may seem busy, it is one of the best ways to catch some great scenery while travelling between each city.

Eight days, five grand cities:

When you start to plan your vacation and tour of the cities of Morocco, then you are going to want to start in Casablanca.  Day number one and two sees you arriving in the city and relaxing before embarking on a sightseeing tour of the countries principal city.  It contains the largest port in the country, Maghreb, which is actually busier than Marseille in France.  You should make it a point to see the central market, the Habous district, the Royal Palace, the Hassan II Mosque, the Anfa residential area and the Mohamed V Square.  Enjoy some lunch and dinner and then take a ride to Rabat 90 kilometers away for dinner and a great sleep at your next hotel.

Day three, by way of example, will have you seeing Morocco’s capital of Rabat which has a very European atmosphere and design.  Here the best sites to visit are: the Medina with the Kasbah of the Oudayas; the Mohamed V Mausoleum; the Mosque; the ramparts and walls of Mechouar that surround the Royal Palace; and the Hassan Tower.  Be forewarned that you may not be able to enter the mosques as many do not allow non-Muslim within their walls.  Some have limited tours that do allow you inside but they are very structured.  Catch some lunch and then head out to Meknes through Volubilis and Moulay Idris.  You will be able to see the provincial Roman capital and the area in which the first Arab dynasty was born.  There is not much to see on this road but magnificent scenery.  You will arrive in Fez in time for dinner and some rest after traveling 180 kilometers.

Fez is a grand city that will require a full day tour in order to see what is so special.  This holy city is very much an example of the Spanish-Arabic civilization and the city itself likes to unveil its secret slowly.  There is plenty to see and do in Fez including but not limited to: the medina; Moulay Idriss; the Andalusia mosque; the Rsif Mosque; the Kissaria shopping area; El Attarine souk; the Boujeloud gate; the Museum of Moroccan Art; and some general shopping to find some of the most unique handmade gifts possible.  Fez will take up your entire fourth day and after dinner, you can crawl into your bed exhausted and ready for some rest filled with interesting dreams of Moroccan culture and the rest of your Morocco holiday.

Day five finds you leaving Fez and heading to Marrakech.  Once on your way, a 485 kilometer journey, you will get to see the ski resort of Ifrane and the village of Azrou.  Azrou is most well known for its handicrafts and majestic cedar woods of the Middle and High Atlas Mountains.  You can stop in Beni Mellal, a Berber city and agricultural centre, for lunch and some light touring to stretch your legs before heading on to Marrakech.  When you arrive, why not take in a show before settling in for the night?  Day six is going to have you discovering the joys of Marrakech, a city well known in a variety of different ways from literature to movies and more.

Marrakech is as modern as it is historic and touring the city will encompass everything in between.  When you make your plans for the day, try to include the following sites: the Menara pool with its Moorish construction and Atlas mountains framing it; the Koutoubia Minaret, the twin of the la Giralda Tower in Sevilla, Spain; the Saadian tombs discovered in 1917; the Museum of Dar Si Said with its Berber arts and crafts; the ruins of the Badii Palace; the Bahia Palace in the Jewish quarter; the Jamaa El Fna Square with its musicians; and the many different and colorful souks where souvenirs can be had.  Dine at one of the many restaurants the city offers and enjoy more music or take in a show.  On day seven you can travel back to Casablanca and enjoy one last night in the city that inspired a movie before heading home.

A Morocco Trip simply cannot be appreciated on a single visit, but an eight day tour of the country’s Imperial cities is one way of allowing you to get a taste of what this country has to offer.  You can spend more or less time each as you please and hopefully you will come back and visit each city that captures your heart more thoroughly.

Jobs That Travel the World – How to Get World Travel Jobs

September 2nd, 2008 — 07:35 am
travel article
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to travel around the world and get paid while you do it? With a little creativity and a lot of courage, those who intelligently plan their world travels can make a serious income while living it up in exotic, worldwide locations.

Let’s get into the ‘meat’ of how this can be done.

There are 3 types of travelers. Which one are you?

1) Savers
– You get a job, or jobs, in one location, save and save, and when you have enough money and nothing tying you down, you go travel. If you’re reading this article you probably already know you don’t want to have this type of job. So, world travel job type number two is…

2) Traveling job seekers. These are people who seek to land jobs that pay them while they travel. Included are tour and adventure guide jobs, film and writing jobs, flight attendant and airline jobs, medical jobs, military work, and so on.

You can get one of these jobs following a very simple formula: Apply for a bunch of positions. Send recommendations. Make follow-up calls. Send thank-you cards. Sooner or later, someone is going to ‘bite’ and give you a position.

3) Systems travelers. These people are referred to as the ‘new rich.’ They set up systems using simple (but new) technology to constantly deliver value to other people, for which they get paid over and over again. If that was jibberish to you, don’t worry about it. Let’s go a little more into depth about what, exactly, this type of person does.

Here’s an example of a ‘systems traveler’ at work:

Katie likes training dogs, so she makes some YouTube videos and writes a few 1 page articles about some of the stuff she knows. Her ‘job’ is to help other dog owners train their dogs.

When she puts these resources on the internet for others to benefit from, the people who are serious will click on the links in her articles and videos to get more information.

When they do, Katie sends them to a product she has found online that pays her every time someone buys a product. In this case, she makes $66.46 per sale (the actual amount I make for selling a dog training product). One in twenty people buys the product, so if Katie sends 40 people per day to the product, she makes $132.92 per day.

Getting the idea?

Here’s a hint: 40 people a day in terms of traffic is NOTHING. And once the systems are setup properly, your travel job consists of tons of traveling and not a lot of job.

Jobs that travel the world are a dime a dozen. The ideal situation is to become a systems traveler with a job that travels the world. In other words, your online system covers all your expenses and more, while your ‘job’ is for fun and anything they pay you is just gravy.
