What is Top of the List When Visiting London?

May 20th, 2008 — 12:39 am
visit london
s 5 airports, even more football grounds and is one of the busiest cities in the world, so you can be forgiven for not knowing what to see first when coming to London. When you land into London you will first be greeted by public transport usually, which is unfortunate really as it can leave rather a stale taste in your mouth. However, others will see it as part of the experience and no worse than many other capitals.

London has a long history, and those who wish to find out more about London and its history may wish to take a full day London Tour which can be supplied by Evan Evans Tours which is one of London?s key suppliers of quality sightseeing tours. A typical sightseeing tour could take you on a panoramic journey around Parliament Square, to see Westminster Abbey, where many of our Kings, Queens, Statesmen, poets and writers are buried. See Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. You might also experience St Paul’s Cathedral – crowned by the magnificent dome that is so much a part of the London skyline. The Cathedral was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London in 1666. In recent years it has seen the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer and, most recently, the thanksgiving services for both the Golden Jubilee and 80th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

If you want to see a bit more of a lively London, then it would be sensible to head up to Leicester Square and Piccadilly, where London comes alive with shops, bars and current day culture. There is often a new premier in Leicester Square where you could get the chance to rub shoulders with famous film stars. Of course there are also evening London tours available that will show you the nightlife of London this includes the London Party Bus which will take you to great clubs around the capital for a fun filled night.

Finally, if you are able to and you love football then why not try and get your hands on some tickets to watch Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs at one of their home grounds. You might even be able to organise a tour of one of these great London clubs. All in all, there are so many things for people to do in London it just comes down to your taste, either way there is a London Tour out there for everyone.

Writing Travel Articles For Article Marketing

May 11th, 2008 — 02:54 am
travel article
There are lots of travel website owners who write travel articles for article marketing, many of whom I believe do not give themselves the best shot at successful results. In this article I will explain why from my observations that I think some travel writers let themselves down and how I believe they can improve their results.

The Nitty Gritty

First of all article marketers submit articles to article directories as part of their website promotions – that and much of what I’m saying here applies for any niche. Ideally article marketers are working towards the following:

· Long term backlinks pointing to their sites

· Viral effect of articles being re-published on authority sites and ezines

· Click throughs on those links

· Establish themselves as an authority in their niche

· Credibility in the eyes of readers

The first 3 are about getting more traffic to your sites, the last 3 are about benefiting from the traffic. Article marketers will not benefit from their work if they produce:

· Poorly written articles

· Show a lack of first hand knowledge

· Ruin their credibility by misleading and disappointing readers

It’s all common sense but not every writer gets it. In order to explain more I will use some potential scenarios.

Information Searches

Jess and Mick have booked a cheap flight on the Internet to the Canary Islands. As they need accommodation it’s only natural that they do a search for the type of accommodation that they want. They use ‘Canary Island holiday property rentals’ in their first search and are pleased to see an article titled ‘Canary Island Holiday Property Rentals’ at the top of the search results.

Disappointment hits them when they find that the article is about the Canary Islands in general and has nothing to do with holiday property rentals except for a link in the resource box. The author has lost credibility because their title is misleading and the only links that are likely to be clicked on are the Google ads that you generally find on the article directory pages or more likely Jess and Mick click away and continue their search.

They finally find the information that they really want and accommodations sorted out they now want information about hiring a car. Their search is Canary Islands car hire, the top link is an article titled ‘Canary Islands Car Hire’. Imagine how annoyed Jess and Mick feel to find yet another general article about the Canary Islands and the only thing concerning car hire is a link in the author bio – goodbye credibility, article and click throughs!

Publisher Searches

Mathew is building a website about the Caribbean. He has some of his own material but decides to visit an article directory and find some content to help build his site faster. He finds a really great article about visiting Jamaica and would love to use it but the title ‘Cheap Flights To The Caribbean’ is a problem. Yes you’ve guessed right – the only reference to cheap flights is in the author bio. Mathew decides against using the article on his website because he has ethics and does not want to mislead his site visitors.

He then spots an article titled ‘Fabulous Jamaica Resort Review’. Mathew expects a genuine review from somebody who has visited the resort, but he doesn’t get that. Instead there is a brochure like article extolling the virtues of a hotel or all inclusive resort that just happens to be linked to in the author bio – and an article that shows no indication of the author ever setting foot on the beautiful island of Jamaica. There is also a sentence recommending a website for more information within the article body and that website just happens to belong to the author – goodbye credibility.

Reality Check

With these scenarios the authors have thought that they were being clever and used the best keywords and phrases in the titles for what they are promoting in the author bio. Fair enough if the article content matches the titles and key phrases – shooting yourself in the foot article marketing if it doesn’t.

If you promise a review of a resort you should deliver just that and not something that can be found on any travel brochure or travel site. A review should be an author’s opinion written from experience and nothing less. Recommending your own websites in the article body not only spoils an article but is also a credibility hit.

If your misleading article is accepted on article directories do you want to benefit from the viral effect of your article being published on other websites and ezines? Would you want content on your website or ezine that is misleading or pure unpaid for advertising? I know that I wouldn’t. I really enjoy reading good travel articles and reviews, but often find them disappointing for the reasons that I’ve outlined.

Any good and ethical sales person, and that includes Internet marketers know that to do well you need to build up trust with your prospective customers. You want your articles to work for you so start thinking about them from the point of view of a reader or publisher and you won’t go far wrong.

The travel niche is huge and nowadays many travellers search the Internet for information before they book their dream holidays. The majority of travellers know nothing about Internet marketing, article marketing or key phrases. All they know is what they see – that they are being misled. Would you click on a link and buy from an author or seller who is misleading you?

Things to do in Portland: City Tour

May 2nd, 2008 — 11:41 am
city tour
Greyline tours offers a limited selection of tours of Portland and the surrounding areas. The one we took was the City tour combined with the tour of The Columbia River Gorge. It’s a full day tour but it was a lot of fun. They must not get a lot of tourists in Portland or maybe it was the time of year that we visited because this our was only offered on Sundays and they were only 4 of us on a 49 passenger bus.

The City tour was pretty basic. The guide was great though. He knew all the history of the parks and buildings and pointed out all the interesting ones. At least he thought they were interesting. I was having a hard time staying awake looking at buildings.

But then we went to the International Rose Test Gardens. This place was beautiful. It would’ve been perfect if it hadn’t been for all the dog poop all over the grass. There must have been over 200 kinds of roses. Of all colors. Orange, Red, White, Yellow, Purple, Pink, and more. They also had several other kinds of flowers. We went in late May and the roses had just started blooming. So there were a bunch but not as many as there are in June and July when they bloom in full season. I would love to see that.

Portland actually attracts one million visitors in June when they have a month long rose festival. All types of activities go one and it’s a ton of fun. But it’s hard to get hotel rooms so if you want to go, you should book early.

One thing about Portland the guide pointed out was that it rains 9 months out of the year. Wow. How they handle it I couldn’t tell you. But they say it’s a light drizzle not a full ruin. But that’s just as bad in my book.

After the rose garden we were taken to the Chinese Garden in Chinatown. This garden is supposed to be a copy of another garden of Portland’s sister city in China. The garden itself was beautiful. And we were lucky enough to arrive when the tour was starting. By listening to the tour guides you get a much better understanding of all the nuances and symbolism that you would miss without it. The tour made the visit really worthwhile.

After lunch we got back on the bus again for the second half of the tour – the Columbia River Gorge. A gorge is actually a chasm that the river cuts through the land. So the Columbia River Gorge is the name of the Columbia River and the land on both sides. Our first stop on this tour was the local dam and fish counting station. They have fish ladders here and someone actually sits and counts every single fish that swims by. They do this to keep track of the numbers of fish that come back to the area to spawn every year.

Stop number two was a fish hatchery where we go to see how the mass produce fish. Very gruesome. But we also got to see Herman the Sturgeon. He’s a 10 foot sturgeon swimming around in his pool. Herman used to be 12 feet long, but someone came in at night and stole him so he was replaced by another fish who is now called Herman as well. The Sturgeon is the fish we get caviar from.

The best part of the day, in my eyes, was what we did next. We took a scenic old highway and saw six different waterfalls. Each of them unique and beautiful. It was fun jumping out of the bus and taking pictures of each one. Never have I seen so many waterfalls so close together. Multnomah Falls was the highlight. We stopped here for 45 minutes up to the bridge to get a closer view. Nature is just awesome.

The last part of the trip was a visit to the Crown Point Vista House. This area gives you a spectacular view of the whole Gorge from up top. Simply breathtaking.

If you want to see Portland and you only have one day to do it, do this tour. If you have a car though, every place we visited was free except the Chinese Garden. So you might want to go to Union Square, figure out which bus is going on what tour, and follow the bus. They only have two buses so it shouldn’t be hard.
