If I go visit New York City at 19 where could I stay for a couple of days. or whatever?

What i did when i was young i stayed in a hotel in jersey city in new jersy and took the subway over to nyc every morning its only like a 10 minute ride its really cheap!!!!!!!! i was there for a week and only spent 1000 and that included everythign my admission for things my souveniers my shopping money it was a cheap holiday. Thats what i would suggest anyways…..
